Established in 1959 by the visionary Babasaheb Keshav Narayanrao Deshmukh, Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal (SSM) is dedicated to holistic rural development in Maharashtra’s Nanded district. From a small school, SSM has grown into a vast 200-acre Bio-diverse learning campus at Sagroli. Committed to preserving the goodness of rural culture, SSM’s multifaceted approach includes interventions in Education, Skill and livelihood, Agriculture, and Environmental Conservation, guided by the belief that education leads to emancipation.

The Karmayogi

Keshavrao Narayanrao Deshmukh, fondly known as Babasaheb, embodied the principle of “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye” (Education leads to Salvation) throughout his life until his passing on August 16, 2004. Born on March 27, 1926, in Sagroli, Maharashtra, he grew up in privilege but was deeply concerned about the struggle faced by villagers in the vicinity. Despite his education in Hyderabad, he detached himself from the privileged class to dedicate his life for the people who were deprived of educational facilities. He founded Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashmi in 1959 to promote grassroot education and eradicate superstitions among rural masses. ‘ Karma Yogi’, left behind a legacy of social reforms and educational  empowerment through his humble demeanour and unwavering dedication.

A culmination of traditional flavour and modern outlook, Maharashtra Jalnayak Shri Pramod ji has transformed the organisation into a Change Maker in Maharashtra. As a Fulbright Fellow and a graduate in Agriculture, he has promoted research-intensive, pioneering initiatives in the field of Agriculture, Environment and water management and reached out to the farming community. Efforts put in remarkable and sustained growth in the Socioeconomic status of the rural population through the development projects undertaken by the organisation changed the living standards of thousands of families.

He has been instrumental in networking with like-minded organisations and evolving a unified workforce to work in collaboration to achieve a better impact on Rural Development in Maharashtra.

A seasoned professional has been leading the community of Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal to next the level while propagating the ideology of the foundation. His trust in inclusive leadership has been rewarding while engaging dynamic youth force to carry forward the multi-disciplinary Rural Mission. The reformation he has brought in the administration and accounts department lead to a well-documented and transparent good governance in the multifarious organisation. His farsighted initiatives enhanced the outreach and added much value to the brand-building of Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal Long before quality private education became a reality in this country, he emphasized that the students of SSM should receive education in a very hospitable and competitive environment so as to meet the challenges ahead, effortlessly. As a result, education at our schools touched impeccable heights.
